The SLMD (Station Line Module Digital ) contains four digital station line circuits (SLCD) for connection of ISDN terminals via the U* interface.
For every U* access line (basic access) there are two B channels each with 64 kbit/s for transmission of messages and a D-channel with 16 kbit/s for signaling. In addition to channels B1 + B2 + D (144 kbit/s) synchronization information and internal control information for test loop 2B is transmitted. This results in a modulation rate of 160 kbit/s, which is transmitted full duplex using the 3-level decoupled AMI code.
The U* interface also offers -48 volts to power the terminal equipment.
